Mount Hood Oregon
Mount Hood is Oregon highest mountain, and a renowned recreational region. Mount Hood is about one hour's scenic drive from Portland. There are 11 glaciers on the slopes of Mount Hood that feed many fabulous trout streams. Mount Hood is a volcano and could possibly erupt in the next 100 years. Mount Hood is the most climbed mountain in the USA and second most climbed in the world after Mount Fuji in Japan. Hikers have many trails to choose from, however the Timberline trail is the most popular winding through beautiful mountain meadows and streams. The Timberline Lodge is a National Landmark, built in 1937 and is a fine example of Cascadian architecture. It is one of the most outstanding examples of massive wood and stone building in the world. The Timberline Ski Lodge is the only year round ski lodge in the US, closing only two weeks in September. The Mount Hood National Forest has 1.2 million acres and over 1200 miles of great trails to choose from. |
