Galveston, Texas
Galveston offers 32 miles of beautiful white beaches, excellent restaurants, fine cuisine, nice resort hotels, wonderful downtown shopping, many antique stores, unbelievable art galleries, magnificent entertainment and lots of ancient Victorian architecture in the country.
Galveston is a small dreamy island nestled deep within the heart of south Texas having all the charm of a little southern town and just 40 minutes south of the fourth major city in the United States.
Galveston Island has seen its share of disasters, yet the worst one in U.S. history could not erase the tranquility of a Galveston sunset. Damages from Ike are estimated at $27 billion (2008 USD), if the estimates are true, Ike will be the fourth costliest Atlantic hurricane of all time and third costliest U.S. hurricane of all time. Ike has been blamed for 117 deaths, primarily in Haiti, which was already trying to recover after the impact of three prior 2008 systems, Fay, Gustav, and Hanna, and in the United States, with many of the deaths taking place well inland.
From soft sandy beaches to famous 19th century architecture, the island is surrounded with incredible history and unique beauty. The Galveston Island Convention & Visitors Bureau
