4 Days Foreluxury Golf: Ryder Cup (Closing) Tour Package

Priced From: $4,595 pp dbl. occ.
Dates: Sep

Imagine standing on the hallowed grounds of Valhalla Golf Club, as Nick Faldo faces off against Paul Azinger at the 2008 Ryder Cup. The slick bent grass putting surfaces of this Nicklaus-designed course are well guarded by scooped-out grassy hollows and mounded swatches of lush bluegrass rough. Watch in hushed silence as Azinger and his team attempt to turn the tide for the once-dominant Americans, who have watched Europe win five of the last six Ryder Cup meetings.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Lexington

Fly into Lexington Bluegrass airport and transfer in a private Sedan to your hotel. Spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.

Hotel: Hyatt Regency Lexington
Meals: None

Day 2 - Ryder Cup (Team Matches)

Meet in the hotel lobby after breakfast for your private transfer to the Ryder Cup Tournament at the Valhalla Golf Club. Golf Digest consistently rates Valhalla as the "Best in State" and one of "America's 100 Greatest Courses". In addition, Golf Week ranks it as one of "America's 100 Best Modern Courses". Valhalla Golf Club has been the host site for the 1996 and 2000 PGA Championships, the 2002 PGA Club Professional Championship and the 2004 Senior PGA Championship. And of course, in September of 2008, golf's most illustrious event, the 37th Ryder Cup, will be contested here. With this, the facility becomes only the third such in the United States to host a PGA Championship, a Senior PGA Championship and a Ryder Cup.

Upon arrival (we are one of the only companies that will drive you directly onto the Valhalla grounds); our on-site guide will provide a brief orientation to the course and the schedule of the day’s activities. You will also have exclusive access to the International Pavilion, a private covered pavilion area, providing seating and the opportunity to purchase food and beverages. The International Pavilion provides a sanctuary in the event of inclement weather and has TV monitors showing the live action around the course.

Today’s golf format is a combination of Foursomes & Four Ball matches. A Foursome match is when two play against two, and each side plays one ball, while a Four-Ball (not Best Ball) is when two play their better ball against the better ball of two other players.  Spend the rest of the day following your favourite world-class golfers across the pristine contours of the emerald course.

At the end of today’s round transfer to a private horse farm for dinner and entertainment by a live Bluegrass band.

Hotel: Hyatt Regency Lexington
Meals: None

Day 3 - Ryder Cup (Singles Matches)

After breakfast, we make our way back to the Valhalla Golf Club (and the International Pavillion) for one of the most exciting tournament days in golf, period. The format for today is 12 singles matches, all of which are played until a winner is declared.  If the overall competition is deadlocked at the end of the singles play on Sunday, there is a sudden death playoff between two players-designated in advance by the captain of each team.

Watch as the Ryder Cup is awarded to the winning team at the closing ceremony. In 1927, English seed merchant Samuel A. Ryder presented the Ryder Cup for the first time to The Professional Golfers’ Association of Great Britain. The trophy was commissioned for £250 and stands 17 inches high, is nine inches from handle to handle and weighs four pounds. The golfing figure depicted on the top of the trophy reflects the image of Abe Mitchell, a former gardener himself and a friend and instructor of Samuel Ryder. A bout of appendicitis prevented Mitchell from competing in the inaugural Matches in 1927. But he returned to compete for Great Britain in 1929, '31 and '33.

After another full day of exhilarating championship golf, we will retreat to the comforts of the hotel.

Hotel: Hyatt Regency Lexington
Meals: None

Day 4 - Lexington - Griffin Gate Golf Resort

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll check out of the hotel and tee off at Griffin Gate Golf Resort. Renowned architect Rees Jones, son of the revered Robert Trent Jones, sculpted this very fast track from the surrounding rolling hills. Measuring over 6,800 yards from the back tees and just under 5,000 yards from the forward tees, Griffin Gate challenges beginners and professionals alike. With gaping bunkers guarding every green, water in play on 12 of 18 holes and few flat putts, golfers are chomping at the bit to play at this destination resort located in the heart of Bluegrass country.

Following your game, grab a quick snack and transfer back to Lexington Bluegrass Airport for your flight home.

Meals: None
