While many theories exist, nobody really knows for certain why hundreds of huge stone jars are scattered throughout several sites upon a barren Laotian plain. Carved from solid rock, many of these containers weigh from 600kg to one ton each; the largest weighs six tons. The jars, it is said are around 2,000 years old; however, again, nobody knows for sure. Were they ancient sarcophagi, water jars, or rice stores? Scientists continue to debate this intriguing discovery while visitors simply marvel at these mysterious relics.
