The cobbled streets of this medieval town are lined with stores selling the wines the region is known for. In the eighth century, emilion, a hermit, lived in a cave with an underground spring. Over the next 500 years, his cave was enlarged to create eglise Monolithe, one of France’s largest underground rock churches.
