Embark on a tour of this former penal colony turned busy port before boarding your adventure cruiser and setting sail. ‘Stella Australis’ | Meals: B D Days 4-5: Patagonia | Aboard ,˜Stella Australis” Cruise to Cape Horn, where the Atlantic meets the Pacific, and see the spectacular Avenue of Glaciers, and the Strait of Magellan. Daily programs may change depending on weather conditions, but wildlife viewing is exceptional. Your on-board lecturers present informal discussions on the flora, fauna and local history. You also have the opportunity to go by Zodiac to solitary beaches for an adventurous trek on land. ‘Stella Australis’ | Meals: B L D Day 6: Punta Arenas, Chile | Penguin Colony Stop at Magdalena Island, home to an enormous penguin colony, and walk to the lighthouse that guided sailors passing through the Straits of Magellan. Disembark in Punta Arenas and take a tour of this southern city. The Singular Patagonia (Gold) or Las Torres Patagonia (Silver) | Meals: B L D Days 7-9: Puerto Natales or Torres del Paine National Park Spend three full days exploring in Puerto Natales or Torres del Paine National Park in the heart of Patagonia. These areas boast a stunning array of mountains, glaciers, lakes and forests. Along with thousands of sheep, Patagonia is home to local animal species such as the guanaco and nandu, condors and flamingos. Explore by vehicle; on horseback with trails providing access to places unreachable by car; by boat along the fjords or rivers; and on foot, with treks ranging from easy walks to much more extensive explorations. The Singular Patagonia (Gold) or Las Torres Patagonia (Silver) | Meals: B L D Day 10: Puerto Montt | European Influences Return to Punta Arenas airport and fly to Puerto Montt, the gateway city to Western Patagonia. Note its European architecture, with shingles, high-pitched roofs and ornate balconies that speak to Puerto Montt’s German influences. Enjoy a brief tour of the city en route to your hotel. Hotel Cumbres (Gold) or Casa Molino (Silver) | Meals: B Day 11: Puerto Varas/Bariloche | Chilean Lake District Travel overland through the Chilean Lake District, absorbing the spectacular scenery of deep blue mountain lakes, snowcapped volcanoes and ancient forests. Stop by historic Frutillar, a German-style town, en route to the Chile-Argentina border. Cross into Argentina and to the quaint town of Villa La Angostura, where you enjoy lunch overlooking the Correntoso River. Afterward, board a vessel and travel through Mansa Bay to the Arrayanes Forest. Re-board a catamaran that takes you to Puerto Pañuelos and your hotel, located in the heart of postcard-perfect Bariloche. Llao Llao Hotel & Resort | Meals: B L Day 12: Bariloche | Scenic “Little Switzerland” Explore “Little Switzerland,” as Bariloche is often called, on a tour of the Llao Llao Peninsula, Lopez Bay and Cerro Campanario, reached by chairlift. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to explore this beautiful area.
