San Vicente de Moravia

On the road from the Braulio Carrillo National Park back to San Jose, it is a good idea to take a short detour via the village of San Vicente de Moravia, seven kilometers northeast of the capital city. The village, formerly serving the large coffee plantations in the area, is now famous for its handicrafts; leather articles such as belts, hair clips, leather boxes, wood carvings, costume jewelry, ceramic pots and figures. The workshop called Caballo Blanco (White Horse) is especially well known for the goods it sells at the corner of the Parque Central. Other shops worth a visit are La Rueda, La Tinaja, Ceramics Buchanan and Artesania Bribri. The latter sells handicrafts produced by the Bribri Indians on their reservations.
