Playa Dona Ana

Before heading off again into the interior of northern Costa Rica, you should make an excursion to Playa Doiia Ana. The beach is 13 kilometers south of Puntarenas, at the southern end of the Bahia de Caldera. Huge waves make it an ideal place for surfing, and its fine sandy beach is appreciated by sun worshipers.

To be more exact, there are actually two beaches in the small bay enclosed by cliffs: Boca Barranca and Playa Dona Ana. Playa Dona Ana is the only one that has been developed for public use. It is also where the annual Costa Rican surfing championship is held. To get there, take the road south from Puntarenas and turn off at the Soda Dona Ana restaurant. At the entrance to the beach there is a car park that charges a fee. A small fee is also charged for use of the beach. The facilities include snack bars, changing cabins and lavatories.
