Tivives

Vacation cottages line the four-kilometer-long beach of Tivives at the mouth of the Rio Jesus Maria. Behind the beach is a 670-hectare area of white mangroves, which grow up to 35 meters high and provide nesting places for tropical birds. Howler and capuchin monkeys keep up an appropriate level of noise, and jaguarundis and ocelots make the forest their habitat.

A paved road leads inland from Tivives to the town of Orotina.
