Palmares

Anyone visiting Costa Rica in January should get on the Panamericana and make a detour to the village of Palmares. The exit is halfway between San Ramon and Naranjo. Every year the village celebrates its now-famous fiesta, which has become known all over the country. The fiesta, which lasts for ten days, is a kind of Central American carnival featuring bull fights, exhibitions and circus attractions. It presents an excellent opportunity to discover how Ticos celebrate and to take part in a genuine highland fiesta.
