Yacht Club de Monaco
The Yacht Club de Monaco is above all a story about men, of energy, and of strong will. Men who over a period of many years have fought to keep traditions and to continue the great moments of sailing.
Incited by the fervor of the Grimaldi Dynasty which in 1997 celebrated its 700 years, the Monaco Yacht Club has always gathered together many great names of the yachting world – an equal number of men and women – who all have in common the love of the sea and the tradition of yachting.
Presided by His Serene Highness Prince Albert since 1984, and having more than 1,000 members – 400 of which have a sporting licence – representing 40 nationalities, the Monaco Yacht Club holds a unique position in the yachting world, and in international sailing competitions.
Among its members, is the triple world champion of trans-ocean racing, Laurent Bourgnon, winner of the “Route du Rhum” race and holder of the record for solitary Atlantic crossings. He has been flying the Monaco Yacht Club colors since 1987, as has Paul Cayard, finalist in the America’s Cup in Il Moro di Venezia in 1992, or the New-Zealander, Grant Dalton, second in the Whitbread Cup in 1997/98.
Regrouping the Monegasque federations of sailing, power boat and deep sea fishing – since 1996 it also includes the section ” Classic Boats ” of the Mediterranean International Committee.The Committee, of which the Monaco Yacht Club is the founder member, keeps the records, managesthe calendar of events and delivers the tonnage certificates.
