The Experience

Amanwana

(peaceful forest) a wilderness hideaway and eco-initiative on the nature reserve of Moyo Island east of Bali, on the western edge of the Nusa Tenggara island chain. Lodging is in luxury tents, with wall dives directly offshore, jungle treks to waterfalls and limestone pools, as well as spa treatments, among the activities. The sheltered waters of the Flores Sea around Amanwana are ideal forgame fishing, cruising, snorkeling and scuba diving, from beginner to advanced levels. Amanwana’s dive operation and fleet of sea-going vessels opens up for its guests a unique experience of one of the world’s most pristine marine environments.

Amanwana is made up of 20 luxurious air-conditioned tents set under a canopy of tropical forest.  Each 58-square-metre tent is partially enclosed by a solid wall. There is a soft waterproof external roof and a separate canvas interior. A coral-stone deck surrounds each tent. Inside, the air-conditioned tents feature banks of windows, Indonesian island artwork, a sitting area with facing divans, king-size bed, a writing desk and a large bathroom. There is hardwood flooring throughout.

The Dining Room and Bar are located in an open-air pavilion facing the sea. Indonesian hardwood flooring and solid coconut pillars support the tropical structure. A selection of Asian and Western food is served at breakfast, lunch and dinner. In season, a regular alfresco barbecue is available as are Campfire dinners.

Located at the far end of the camp, a few metres from the shoreline, the Music Pavilion is a forest sanctuary. Here, you can listen to music, order picnic lunch and a bottle of wine, enjoy afternoon tea or a sunset cocktail.

There are five Aman resorts in Indonesia and five distinctly different resorts and surroundings to experience – Amanwana, Amandari, Amanjiwo, Amankila and Amanusa.

Amanwana occupies an enviable location off the coast of Sumbawa, east of Bali, and is known for its premier diving opportunities. Here, avid divers and snorkelers have access to the Sea Wall and Turtle Street, home to hawksbill and green turtles, moray eels, lobsters and black-tip and white-tip reef sharks. (If you prefer to view your marine life from above, cruising and fishing excursions are readily available.) Accommodations are luxurious tents, each with a coral-stone deck, air conditioning, a sitting area, a king-size bed and hardwood floors. Choose an ocean-view tent or one closer to the lush jungle.
