On this independent journey, explore the ancient Incan sites of Peru and cruise the Galápagos for five nights on board the award-winning vessel ‘Eclipse.’ Day 1: Arrive Lima, Peru Upon arrival in Lima, you are met and transferred to your hotel. Miraflores Park Hotel Day 2: Cusco | City Sights and Sacsayhuaman Fly to beautiful Cusco, once the capital of the Inca Empire, and transfer to your hotel to relax and acclimatize. This afternoon, explore the city a fascinating mix of pre-Columbian and Spanish colonial influences on a tour that includes the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas and the Santo Domingo Temple. Later, visit the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, a testimony to Incan architectural skill. Comprised of colossal stones, the walls were assembled with incredible precision and without a drop of mortar. Hotel Monasterio | Meals: B Day 3: Sacred Valley | Learning Ancient Ways Travel to Chinchero and delve into local culture when you visit weaver Nilda Callapaupa Alvarez, leader of a women’s weaving collective. Learn from up close about ancient techniques and about their role in contemporary Andean culture. Enjoy a barbecue lunch in the gardens. Visit the Ollantaytambo fortress before returning to Cusco. Stop at the Kuychi Center, a charity that assists underprivileged local children at Nias del Arco Iris (Children of the Rainbow), an A&K Philanthropy-supported project. Hotel Monasterio | Meals: B L Day 4: Machu Picchu | Exploring the Lost City This morning, journey on the glass-domed Vistadome train through beautiful mountain countryside to reach Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, begin exploring the Incan city. Machu Picchu forever holds the secret of its passing artifacts have been found here, but no written records, leaving the fate of its Incan inhabitants a mystery. Tour the ancient ruins with your guide. Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge | Meals: B L D Day 5: Machu Picchu | Majestic Vistas Return to Machu Picchu in the morning. You may opt for a hike to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) or hike up to Huayna Picchu, the high mountain that is a part of the ruins. Journey back to Cusco aboard the Vistadome train, enjoying unparalleled vistas of the Andes. Hotel Monasterio | Meals: B L Day 6: Guayaquil, Ecuador | Prelude to Adventure Fly to Guayaquil via Lima. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for the evening. Hilton Colon Guayaquil | Meals: B Days 7-11: The Galapagos | Islands of Wonder Fly to the Galapagos and board ,˜Eclipse, your home for the next five nights. During your cruise, you explore rocky beaches, volcanic landscapes and incredible wildlife on twice-daily excursions to the main islands and along their shores. Begin your day with an early breakfast, and then board a sturdy rubber raft called a panga for the morning excursion. Expect to spot flora and fauna unique to the island you visit, take plenty of photographs and confer with your naturalist guide. On any given day you may see sunbathing sea lions; marine iguanas; penguins, finches and boobies; and even a giant tortoise trudging over the sand. Return to ,˜Eclipse, for a refreshing lunch, followed by the second excursion of the day. Back on board ,˜Eclipse” for the evening, relax before gathering in the dining room for lovely meal and an evening at leisure. ‘Eclipse’ | Meals: B L D Day 12: The Galapagos/Guayaquil | Darwin Research Station Disembark in Puerto Ayora and drive to the Charles Darwin Research Station for an informative visit before transferring to Baltra airport for your flight to Guayaquil.
