The Experience

The Manor On Golden Pond

Nestled on the gentle slopes of Shepard Hill, overlooking pristine Squam Lake and with the White Mountains to the North – The Manor On Golden Pond is situated on 15 landscaped acres studded with majestic pines that whisper in the breeze.  Located in central New Hamphsire, a short drive north of Winnipesaukee in Holderness, The Manor On Golden Pond is 2 hours from Boston, MA and Portland, ME and an hour from the Manchester Airport.

The regal yellow-stucco-and-shingle mansion was built in 1904 for wealthy real estate developer, Isaac Van Horn and his new wife as a private summer residence.  Since the 1950’s, The Manor On Golden Pond has offered an elegant, yet comfortable getaway for discerning travelers.  The present owners purchased The Manor in 1999 and have been renovating the property to its original splendor blending the virtues of a small country inn with the amenities of a grand hotel.

The Manor On Golden Pond features 25 spacious and beautifully appointed guest chambers, including two sumptuous suites.  A model of refinement and elegance, each guest chamber is individually designed; offers breathtaking views of Squam Lake or the White Mountains; and the majority have working fireplaces.  Spacious sitting areas, luxurious fabrics and well-appointed bathrooms set the tone for a tranquil stay.  Some guest rooms have private porches, decks or balconies.  In-room amenities include wireless internet access, color cable television with VCR, Sony radio, CD and alarm clock, personal climate control, hair dryers, plush bathrobes and slippers.  Most bathrooms feature double Jacuzzi tubs and Aveda products.

Breakfast at The Manor On Golden Pond is a major event and even though guests have the option of breakfast in their guest chamber, most choose the fireside atmosphere of the original dining room.  Guests have the option of a full country-style breakfast or a simple fresh fruit platter and homemade granola.

For lighter fare, the seasonal Poolside Bar offers a selection of cocktails, appetizers and entree selections throughout the afternoon.  This outdoor patio area offers a spectacular view of Squam Lake and the White Mountains.  Afternoon tea is served at 4 p.m. either on the patio overlooking Squam Lake or by the wood-burning fireplaces in the library or living room.

For dinner, The Manor offers two dining options.  The Van Horn Dining Room presents a variety of Nuevo American cuisine featuring the abundant bounty from land and sea, near and far.  Guests can choose from an a la carte menu or the Chef’s Tasting Menu offering wine pairing suggestions.  M Bistor will debut in May 2007.  Features Organic French Bistro Cuisine with an abundance of local organic products; casual dining atmosphere in a comfortable setting.  The Manor On Golden Pond has earned the Wine Spectator “Award of Excellence” for the past 7 years.

Cocktails are served in the Three Cocks Pub, an intimate piano bar with lots of dark oak paneling, small copper-topped tables, and numerous decorative roosters.

Many nearby attractions make The Manor On Golden Pond ideal for vacation getaways.  Year-round guests can book a massage treatment with The Manor’s masseuse in Seasons Spa; play chess in the living room or choose a selection from the video library.  In warm weather months, guests can enjoy the outdoor clay tennis court, swimming pool, an array of lawn games or canoes and pedal boats down at the lake.  The region also offers golfing, biking, horseback riding and hiking in state and local parks.

The Manor on Golden Pond is a tranquil 13-acre estate overlooking Squam Lake (of On Golden Pond fame). Stay in one of 24 individually appointed guestrooms, many with fireplaces, whirlpool tubs and private decks with views of the White Mountains. For daytime activities, this charming bed-and-breakfast is perfectly situated for accessing the best that the local New England landscape offers: skiing, sailing, golfing, hiking or antique shopping in nearby Concord. The on-site Seasons Spa offers a variety of sublime treatments, including a maple syrup mud wrap. Dining is in the beautiful Van Horn Room, a Four Diamond Award winner.
