Curio & Porpoise Bays

Curio Bay is a beautiful, isolated little spot where the remains of a petrified forest are visible on a rocky platform at low tide. About 160 million years ago the fossilised tree stumps and fallen logs were part of a sub-tropical Jurassic forest.

In neighbouring Porpoise Bay it is often possible to see Hector’s dolphins playing in the surf. As the beach is safe for swimming there is nothing to stop visitors from joining them. For those who want to spend more time in the area there is a camping ground with basic facilities on the Porpoise Bay headland, just above the beach.
