The Experience

The Chanler at Cliff Walk

The Chanler at Cliff Walk is located within close proximity of the greater Boston area and just a 3-hour drive from New York City.  The first mansion built on the famed Cliff Walk of Newport, Rhode Island is the first mansion-turned-hotel after a multimillion-dollar renovation and refurbishment.  Built in 1873 as the summer home to Congressman John Winthrop Chanler and Margaret Astor Ward, the mansion has also served as a historical museum and a boarding school for girls.

The Chanler at Cliff Walk’s spectacular oceanfront views and intimate setting provide a European-inspired venue that is truly unique to Newport.  Your choice of accommodations reflects your personality and style, naturally immersed in historical elegance and charm.  The hotel has a total of 20 rooms:  14 mansion rooms, 3 private ocean villa rooms and 3 garden villa rooms, each with distinctive decor and antique furnishing based on a historic period or theme.  Guestrooms feature heated bathroom floor, wet bar, fireplace, DVD, iPod/iPhone docking station, in-room K-Cup coffee service, wireless internet access, in-room safe, plush terry-lined robes and slippers.

The Spiced Pear Restaurant, with its floor to ceiling windows, offers elegant dining amidst stunning views of the New England coastline.  Executive Chef Thomas Duffy presides over a custom-designed show kitchen featuring a double island Bonnet cooking suite and La Besse Girudon rotisserie.  The dining experience is highly specialized, featuring the freshest local seasons foods and fine wines.

The Chanler at Cliff Walk is within easy walking distance to local beaches, shops, historic mansions and Newport’s scenic downtown waterfront.  Guests enjoy a wide variety of activities and attractions including mansion tours, museums, The Norman Bird Sanctuary, Newport Vineyards and Winery and more.

Reigning over the rugged Rhode Island coast, The Chanler at Cliff Walk offers an elegant escape and the chance to live the grand lifestyle for which the neighboring mansions are historically known. Inside this gracious estate, 20 guestrooms are individually designed to reflect a different historical period or theme, while all boast modern comforts such as flat-screen televisions, wet bars, fireplaces, DVD players and heated floors in the bathrooms (particularly lovely on those cool winter mornings). A true gem of the hotel is The Spiced Pear Restaurant, with cliffside Atlantic views and cuisine based on fresh seasonal ingredients.
