Historic Union Station, Montgomery’s Visitor Center
Every visit to Montgomery starts at this splendidly preserved train station where tourists can enjoy a quick video on things to see in Montgomery. Visitors can also purchase gifts from The Depot, Montgomery’s official gift shop with memorable souvenirs for everyone young and old!

Alabama State Capitol
The historic Senate and House of Representatives Chambers, the old Supreme Court Chambers and the original Governor’s office have been restored to the Civil War era. It is one of a few state capitols designated a National Historic Landmark, the Alabama State Capitol is where Jefferson Davis took the oath of office as President of the Confederate States of America and where the Selma-to-Montgomery Civil Rights March ended with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivering a moving speech from the bottom of its steps. The historic Senate and House of Representatives Chambers, the old Supreme Court Chambers and several official offices have all been restored to their Civil War-era and turn-of-the-century appearances. The Capitol is open Monday thru Friday for self-guided tours or pre-arranged guided tours for groups of 15 or more, and Saturdays for guided tours at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Free Admission. Closed Sundays and State holidays Summer. Sweaters and jackets are worn from late November through March.

Alabama Department of Archives & History
This Montgomery jewel is the oldest state-funded archives in the nation, constructed in 1940. Walk through history in the many museum galleries and exhibits as well as the genealogical research facilities. There’s a great break for the kids in Grandma’s Attic! Don’t miss it!

First White House of the Confederacy
Visit the home of former President Jefferson Davis and his family, while Montgomery was the Capital of the Confederate States of America. This impressive house contains period furnishings and many of Davis’ personal belongings, providing a truly authentic and historic experience for all ages.

Old Alabama Town
Perfect for all ages! Over forty restored Alabama structures depicting life in precise detail of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Structures include the Lucas Tavern, Grange Hall, a doctor’s office, school, shotgun house, drugstore museum, cotton gin, corner grocery and so much more.

Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church
See the actual pulpit where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. first preached his message of hope and brotherhood at this national historic site. Don’t miss the original mural depicting the life works of Dr. King.

Dexter Avenue Parsonage Museum
This 91-year-old structure is the former home of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his family. It has been fully restored with the original furniture and furnishings used by the King family.
Admission charge. Appointments are preferred.

Rosa Parks Library & Museum and Children’s Annex
Experience the courageous spirit of Rosa Parks, a 42-year-old seamstress who sparked the modern civil rights movement by taking a stand while keeping her seat. Watch a reenactment of the events and listen to actual participants of the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott.
