Located midway between Boston, Massachusetts and New York City and situated on the shores of both the Thames River and Long Island Sound the City of New London is a wonderful community in which to live, visit and do business. Our historic waterfront City is best known as the home of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and America’s Tall Ship the Barque Eagle.

The City is presently in the midst of a period of economic revitalization with significant development initiatives underway in the State Pier, the Downtown and the Fort Trumbull areas. The most notable result of these efforts is the recent completion of Pfizer, Inc.’s $300 million dollar Global Research and Development Headquarters on the City’s waterfront. This is what New London is all about.

New London is also known as an historic whaling port, a center of higher learning, a multi modal transportation center and an arts and cultural center.

New London’s newly constructed Waterfront Park, located on the Thames River and Long Island Sound, is recognized as a destination point for tall ships and luxury cruise lines and gives visitors hours of pleasure strolling and taking in the breezes and sun of Southeastern Connecticut.

It is also home to important historic landmarks, acres of public parks, and many museums. A thriving commercial center in the City of New London provides many choices for consumers and businesses alike. But much of what makes New London a great place to live can be found in its neighborhoods. Whether they live in historic homes or modern apartments, families, young professionals and seniors define a sense of community across our city.

Festivals and special events sponsored by the City are enjoyed by thousands of citizens in each season of the year. Under the leadership of City Council, City employees strive every day to provide citizens with the services and support they expect and deserve. At our schools, libraries, parks, police and fire departments, public utilities, public works, codes compliance and engineering departments, they take pride in public service for you.
