Molokai Geography

Molokai, the Friendly Isle, has a land mass area of 261 square miles and is the fifth largest of the Hawaiian Islands. It has a population of about 6,000. Molokai is part of the County of Maui and its main population center is the small port town of Kaunakakai. The island has 88 miles of coastline ranging from some of the highest seacliffs in the world (over 3,000 feet) on the north shore to sandy beaches and placid coral reef lagoons on the south shore. The island is rectangular in shape, 38 miles long by 10 miles wide. The highest point is Kamakou at 4,970 feet on the island's eastern end. The age of Molokai, as measured by a comparison of its structural lava flows, ranges from 1.3 to 1.8 million years.
