Jacks Bay Blowhole
Further north another detour can be made to Jacks Bay Blowhole by following the road along Catlins Lake (actually an extension of the Catlins River) towards the coast. The blowhole lies in the middle of farmland and is connected to the sea by a 656ft (200m) long subterranean tunnel. The plume of sea-water that spurts out of the 196ft (60m) deep hole is at its most impressive at high tide and in stormy weather. However, if the weather is fine there is no need to feel disappointed as the beach at Jacks Bay is one of the finest around.
