The Experience

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle

Located in the heart of Golden Triangle on elevated grounds along a hillside, the Four Seasons Tented Camp commands majestic views of the Thai jungle, Burma across the Ruak River and mountains of Laos in the northeast. From the moment of your arrival at Chiang Rai, a magical journey begins.

15 free-standing tented accommodations spaced at a comfortable distance from each other allow total privacy. Built on elevated ground along a one-kilometre (0.6-mile) hillside trail overlooking the Ruak River, Burma, the mountains of Laos or the jungle and Golden Triangle, each tent is designed as an open space with a large outdoor deck. Furnishings are handcrafted and custom-made, in styles reminiscent of 19th-century adventure expeditions. Each tent features one king or two twin beds.

Set in the seclusion of a Thai jungle, your luxury Tented Camp accommodation is part of an all-inclusive package designed for active adults which includes:

  • Private round-trip airport transfer
  • Luxury tented accommodation
  • Full board including house wines and spirits
  • Mahout training and elephant trekking
  • Golden Triangle excursion
  • Spa treatment

Guestroom amenities include 100% cotton oversized bath towels, complete set of exclusive Thai toiletries, down pillows, emergency overnight kits, flashlights, in-tent safe, in-tent spa services available, individually controlled air conditioning and heating, nature books and binoculars for bird watching, refrigerated private bar, robes and slippers, tea/coffee maker and twice-daily housekeeping service.

As a small, close-knit community, guests share their dining experiences in locations that may vary from day to day. Breakfast is served at Nong Yao, our main restaurant. Lunch may be a picnic in the jungle. After late-afternoon activities, catch a sundowner – 30 minutes of snacks and refreshments while you watch the sky turn golden. Dinner is an event at the Camp, too. It may be a barbecue under the stars, a five-course formal meal or a dinner by campfire at Elephant Camp.  For your excursions, picnic baskets are prepared from a choice of items and served in Four Seasons style complete with folding camp table, stools and linen napkins.

At the spa at Four Seasons Tented Camp, wonder-working treatments rejuvenate your body and bathe your spirit in perfect serenity. Amidst the bamboo forests of the Golden Triangle are two open-air salas featuring double treatment rooms, spa beds and a bathtub/shower area. With their rustic design and use of natural materials, the salas blend in with the environment.

The free-form pool and connected whirlpool provide guests with a relaxing break between other activities. Located on a higher level and landscaped with local granite boulders and teak logs, the pools overlook the Ruak River. Snacks and beverages are served poolside from sunrise to sunset.

Upon arrival at the Camp, guests will receive traditional mahout outfits. Training starts with learning to bathe and feed an elephant. Together with the elephant’s own mahout, guests learn the basic commands needed to drive an elephant, which they will have an opportunity to practice on an exploration of the Thai jungle.  Sundowners will be served when the sun begins to set over the horizon, after which the elephants will be released into the jungle for night feeding.

Other activities include Mekong River excursions, jungle trekking and nature walks, bird watching, fishing, cooking lessons, traditional craft classes, natural and cultural history lecture series, and roaming the markets in Mae Sai.

Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Thailand indulges guests who come to this remote location. The all-inclusive accommodations include all meals and drinks, mahout training and elephant trekking, a Golden Triangle excursion, a spa treatment and more. After a day of exploration, enjoy soothing treatments in the lavish spa amidst the bamboo forests. Swim in the free-form swimming pool and whirlpool; snacks are served poolside during daylight hours. Dine on Thai, Lao, Burmese and Western specialties before retiring to one of 15 luxury tents complete with every creature comfort.

Ask to participate in the elephants’ morning bathing ritual; watching them enjoy their shower is sure to be a highlight of your stay.
