Southeast NM is also home to White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo and world-famous skiing and horse racing in Ruidoso.
The Carlsbad Caverns contain gigantic subterranean chambers and formations and are home to 300,000 Mexican free-tail bats who reside in the Caverns from the spring until October.
