Visit Nassau County’s spectacular beaches this summer, from the gorgeous white sand stretches along the south shore, to the rugged beauty of the scenic north shore bluffs. Visit Nassau’s largest Park, Eisenhower Park for a range of experiences including bicycling, shuffleboard, croquet, lawn bowling in addition to a great series of free summer concerts. Eisenhower Park also includes a major Aquatic Center, site of many major swimming and diving events. It is open to the public as well. Visitors can also enjoy outdoor summer movie showings at Eisenhower Park, or at Old Bethpage Village in Nassau County.

Boasting many major public courses, Nassau County is also home to Bethpage Black, site of the upcoming 2009 U.S. Open Championship. Museums and other cultural attractions are also a major part of the landscape here. Visit a world class aviation museum that traces the history of flight, from man’s first attempts to conquer the air, to his triumphant walk on the moon. Visitors to Nassau County can experience some amazing cultural and arts attractions as well, ranging from the outdoor amphitheater at Jones Beach, to the “theater in the round” at Old Westbury; and major art exhibits at the Nassau County Museum of Art to the riveting musical performances at the Tilles Center.
Shopping in Nassau County is another main draw and the county includes some of the best. Visit the Americana Manhasset, known as the Rodeo Drive of the east or pick up some great deals at the huge Roosevelt Field indoor shopping mall. Take a scenic drive along the North Shore, known as the Heritage Trail, where the winding roads take you through time and history, past quaint villages and bluff-side beaches. Visit Gold Coast mansions, an outstanding marine life exhibit and a planetarium all in one at the Vanderbilt Museum. Visit the home of poet Jupiter Hammon at the Joseph Lloyd Manor House, or the Walt Whitman Historic Site at the birthplace of famed poet Walt Whitman. Visit the Museum of Long Island Natural Sciences at Stony Brook, or see the working Stony Brook Grist Mill c.1751.
Or step out to the Atlantic Ocean beaches along Fire Island National Seashore, at Suffolk’s South Shore, accessible by bridge or ferry. Climb to the top and enjoy the view at the Fire Island Lighthouse. All along the South Shore, charming villages featuring great food and shopping abound.
Central Suffolk holds its own charms, and boasts the top-rated water park, Splish Splash. Long Island’s two “forks” offer two different experiences for visitors. Visit the rural, laid back North Fork, where vineyards, farm stands and charming villages welcome visitors. Over two dozen wineries grace the scenic east end portion of the Island. Head out to Greenport. Go to the exclusive Hamptons on the South Fork, where movie stars, sand and surf, upscale dining and shopping are the everyday norm.
