South Africa's culture and history are every bit as engrossing as its wildlife, and this independent Family Holiday introduces you to both in high style. Ride a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, explore the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and head into Shamwari Private Game Reserve for two days on safari.

Day 1
Arrive in Cape Town, where unforgettable animal encounters combine with the fun and excitement of a modern city.

Day 2
Drive to Table Mountain where, if the weather allows, you ride all the way up to the mountain's flat top by cable car; the view of the city and the ocean is incredible. Explore the city of Cape Town on a guided tour that includes the Houses of Parliament, National Art Gallery and the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest building in South Africa. Then, visit the prison on Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was held captive.

Day 3
Depart on a full day of adventure to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Kayak to the penguin colony at Boulders Beach; the penguins are used to people, and you can usually get close enough to snap a terrific photo. Afterward, visit a private beach for refreshments, swimming and snorkeling.

Day 4
Leave Cape Town, and visit the nearby wine estates, where parents sample the local vintages while young travellers try their hand at bread baking and other fun activities. Later, drive to Spier, where the whole family shares a thrilling encounter at the Cheetah Outreach project, petting a grown cheetah and cuddling with the cubs. The nearby Eagle Encounters center provides up-close experience with a rehabilitated eagle.

Days 5 - 7
 Depart Cape Town for Shamwari Private Game Reserve, where you spend the next two days on a fun family wildlife adventure. Shamwari is home to the "Big Five" (elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard) and is free of malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Join your guides in search of animals in the mornings and afternoons; watching the struggle of predators and prey firsthand is like nothing you've ever witnessed before. Your stay also includes a visit with the lions and leopards of the Born Free Foundation Big Cat Rescue Centre. The lodge's activity coordinator organizes fun activities such as bead making, clay throwing, stargazing and African storytelling.

Days  8- 9
Depart from Shamwari, and travel overland to Oceana Beach & Wildlife Reserve, the only place in South Africa to boast a beach, bush and game experience. Explore the reserve on a nature drive or guided walk, or relax with a picnic at the beach.

Day 10
Return by air to Cape Town to meet your international flight.
