For those who truly want to experience Zambia, we recommend a private walking safari. Guests walk with trained guides to a series of camps that are set up only for the duration of their stay. This option offers a sense of immersion in the wilderness -- but with the comfort of an experienced naturalist and armed game scout to accompany you. For the walking portion, you will be lead either by Robin Pope, the undisputed expert of the Zambian bush, or a top member of his team. This walking safari begins and ends in fixed camps (Nkwali and Tena Tena Bush Camp) but includes stays at three mobile camps for five nights in the middle of the trip. The mobile camps are set up at different spots along the Mupamadzi River, a quiet tributary to the larger Luangwa River. The terrain here is wild and uninhabited, and the game is unused to seeing humans (but the game-viewing is not dangerous). Almost more important than the gameviewing, though, is the rare opportunity a walking safari presents to explore the country on foot, see the wild landscape, enjoy plenty of good walking, and spend time in the solitude and quiet beauty of a mobile camp. This is a truly unique experience that will be unforgettable for those who value stepping off the beaten track and seeing some of the jewels of this magnificent country.
