Day 2 Capetown
This morning you will be collected from your hotel for your early morning Robben Island Tour. Here we will be joined by a local guide – someone who spent time on the island during the Apartheid years – and thus able to give a personal and often moving account of time spent there. You will also learn something about the island’s most famous prisoner – Nelson Mandela – and see his cell where he spent nearly 27 years of his life. On your return, your guide will accompany you to the V&A Waterfront where you will board your helicopter for a private tour of the City and surrounding beaches and coastline. Cape Point and Peninsular (approx 20 mins). You will get to view such highlights as the beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton, the Twelve Apostles mountain range and Table Mountain as well as the city.
You will be dropped off at the Twelve Apostles for lunch to be enjoyed at the Azure Restaurant (excl. drinks). After your leisurely lunch you will have a chance to hike the 12 Apostles Mountains behind the hotel on one of the trails which should take around 40 mins, before heading back to the city with your driver/guide. Day 3 Capetown
Today you embark on a full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Take in the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, before crossing over to Hout Bay, where you may choose to join an optional boat cruise to Seal Island. From here we drive to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve via Chapman’s Peak, one of the world’s most breathtaking coastal drives, where you will board a funicular to the top of the Peninsula to witness the symbolic meeting of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans as well as have spectacular views over False Bay. We enjoy lunch near here (own account) before continuing to Simonstown, the naval base, and visiting the African Penguin breeding colony at Boulders Beach. We then stop at the Baboon Shop to meet your primate expert for your baboon interaction and 2 hour walk.
Baboon Matters has developed the inspiring “Walking with Baboons” project in an effort to create a level of awareness and appreciation for these incredible creatures. The remaining Chacma Baboons on the southern peninsula (close to Cape Town), face a bleak future as continued urbanization reduces wilderness areas, resulting in on-going conflict situations between man and baboon. Return to Cape Town to arrive late this afternoon at your hotel.
This evening, you will be collected for your Sidecar transfer through the leafy suburbs of Cape Town, past Kirstenbosch to Constantia. Dinner will be served at La Colombe at Constantia Uitsig.
Constantia Uitsig had been a portion of Simon van der Stel’s original grant of Groot Constantia. In 1894 Willem Lategan married Antoinette Bredell of Schoemanshoek, and with her inheritance he built the present homestead of Constantia Uitsig. La Colombe was voted Best Restaurant in Africa and the Middle East and 28th Best Restaurant in the World in 2006 by UK Restaurant Magazine. It didn’t take long for the word to spread that a serious new chef was in town, building on the reputation for excellence and innovation. Luke continues La Colombe’s proud tradition, and has taken it to the next level, serving Classic and Modern French Cuisine with touches of Asia. After dinner, private transfer back to your hotel.
