When winter arrives, it's summer in Cape Town. Cape Town is sophisticated---It is all about being fine cuisine, elegant restaurants, being pampered in blissful spas, playing in nightclubs, tasting wonderful wines, seeing nature in its full splendour and celebrating the creative world of sound, style and art. Table Mountain National Park is a must see vacation destination in Cape Town. The views are simply spectacular!
The waterfront in Cape Town has a backdrop of sea and mountain views, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront (V&A), is home to designer label stores, national retailers, boutiques and services, along with a spread of restaurants, coffee shops and fast-food outlets. There are also two cinema complexes and craft markets, offering visitors the best of everything Cape Town and the Western Cape have to offer. Then spend a day or two cruising the Waterfront and you’ll understand why it has been a favourite destination of Capetonians and visitors since its 1992 re-awakening.
Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world. Nowhere else are these funny looking feathered creatures found in such great numbers. Ostriches are the largest birds in the world. Thanks to ostrich feathers becoming hugely popular, Oudtshoorn became a boomtown in the early 20th century. The fad for oversized feathers died out eventually, but the ostrich palaces (homesteads) and ranches remain. You can visit one of the many farms and be taken on a guided tour. This provides an opportunity to handle tiny, fluffy ostrich chicks, or race on the back of an enormous adult bird.

Cape Point is a landmark at the end of the Cape Peninsula located in the Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park. From its rugged, rocky outcrops and sheer cliffs, to the fynbos covered plains, Cape Point holds much in store for its visitors. A full day of discovery will reward you with spectacular views, fine food, remarkable encounters with nature, spell-binding history and memories to treasure forever. Taste local seafood fare from the Two Oceans Restaurant, perched high above crashing waves and take in sweeping views of False Bay. Alternatively enjoy a light meal or plan a picnic from the Food Shop. Experience and exhilarating ride in the Flying Ducthman funicular, which rises 238 metres above the ocean to where the old lighthouse keeps watch over the seas.
One of the most significant and symbolically charged pieces of land in South Africa, Robben Island guards the entrance to Table Bay. The name hails from the Dutch word for seals, “robbe”. The island was home to Nelson Mandela who was imprisoned there along with other political prisoners. Now a living museum, the island and its ghosts are visited voluntarily. As a place of history, education and insight into South Africa’s past, this is an essential excursion. The return boat trip (half an hour each way) to this World Heritage Site and a guided tour around the museum by an ex-inmate is an experience never to miss.
They are comical, clumsy and very eye-catching in their black and white dress. In 1982 two breeding pairs of African penguins (once known as Jackass penguins thanks to the braying sound they make) moved into prime beachfront estate at Boulders beach between Simonstown and Cape Point. Today there are over 3 000 of these birds living here and the area is now a National Park. Penguins can be viewed up close as they frolic in the water and waddle on land. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who is watching who. You’re likely to see penguin pairs strolling along the boardwalks and in the park. This is the one place in the world you will be able to swim and sunbathe with penguins. In a survey done by the BBC, Boulders Beach was rated one of the five best beaches to visit before you die. All in all, a great place to meet the locals.
