Grande Roche is situated on the site of the old De Nieuwe Plantatie in the Drakenstein valley of Paarl, South Africa. Its heritage dates back to 1717 when a grant of land was given to Hermanus Bosman.

Over the years the homestead grew and changed and, in 1876, it was renovated to reflect the then popular Victorian style. The farm was bought and modernised by the Du Toit family in 1926 and after a fire in 1953 it was rebuilt as a Victorian manor house.

Today Grande Roche is a celebrated international hotel, famous for its exquisite location in the heart of the beautiful Cape Winelands as well as for its luxurious, cosmopolitan accommodation, award-winning cuisine and matchless service and hospitality.

Luxurious Accommodation

The immaculately restored Cape Dutch homestead at Grande Roche dates back to the 18th century, and offers guests a variety of sumptuous accommodations which include 29 luxury suites and five executive rooms.

Bosman's Restaurant

The recently renovated manor house at Grande Roche is the heart of the hotel and home to the award-winning Bosman's Restaurant. A fusion of imaginative and innovative epicurean delights will tantalize the most discerning of palates in Africa's first and only Relais Gourmand restaurant.

Bosman's is a 70-seater restaurant with a terrace and patio seating 60 in fine weather. It is open seven days a week. For groups of eight or more, the Banqueting department will help to choose a menu to suit the guest and the occasion. Dress code for the restaurant is smart - no "Jacket & Tie" requirement. There is wheelchair access throughout as well as designated parking bays.

Bistro Allegro

A sumptuous selection of the Cape's finest fare can be enjoyed in the relaxed and contemporary Bistro Allegro. Choose to enjoy your meal out on the pool patio or in its modern, colourful interior. There are fabulous dishes to savour like fresh salads, seafood, pastas, mouthwatering club sandwiches, delicious desserts, cakes and cheese platters. The Bistro Allegro is the perfect place for a pleasant and informal meal.

Gourmet Evenings

Grande Roche regularly hosts an exciting culinary events programme featuring discerning food and wine connoisseurs and top wine makers and wine personalities. These Gourmet Wine Evenings are held at the celebrated, award-winning Bosman's Restaurant. South African pianists enhance the atmosphere of these Gourmet Evenings, providing quality musical accompaniment.

Bosman's Cigars

Bosman's has a wide range of cigars. Our staff are trained to help you select the perfect cigar to suit your taste and will expertly cut and light it for you. Comfortable venues are provided to comply with South Africa's stringent no-smoking laws, where professionally maintained Cuban, Dominican Republic or Mexican cigars may be selected from our well stocked humidor.

Wedding Ceremonies at Grande Roche

It is always a pleasure for us to arrange weddings at Grande Roche. We take great care to ensure that everything is well organized; paying special attention to each and every detail to make your special day seamless and memorable!

Our intimate chapel has been carefully restored and is the perfect setting for quiet meditations or romantic wedding ceremonies. The quaint venue seats eight people, but a maximum of 14 guests can be accommodated with additional chairs. There is a scenic open area directly outside of the chapel, with beautiful views of Paarl Mountain and the Paarl Wine Valley, which can accommodate a further 45 guests.

Bosman's Lawn is used for larger wedding ceremonies and can accommodate 120 guests. The lush, magnificent lawn is situated beside the Manor House and boasts spectacular views of the Drakenstein Mountains.

The Vineyard Venue

The Vineyard Venue Banqueting Centre is surrounded by vineyards and plum orchards and is situated alongside the award-winning Bosman's Restaurant and Grande Roche Hotel.

This 5-star conferencing hall and amphitheatre - which seats 350 people - can be transformed to accommodate a variety of social functions e.g. weddings, anniversaries, product or vehicle launches and demonstrations. The venue is roughly 200 square meters and can be divided into 3 equal sections with seating for 10 to 200 people, depending on the setup.

Private Dining Room

The W.A. de Klerk Private Dining Room is located in the magnificently restored Manor House. The venue is ideal for private functions, board meetings, presentations or intimate candle lit dinners. With a fire place, large sparkling chandelier, restored Cape Dutch double doors and windows which lead onto the beautiful Pool Patio, this venue is both stylish and sophisticated.

Grande Roche offers guests an exclusive shopping experience at its well-known boutique store, La Rochelle Gallery. Treat yourself to some sparkling antique jewellery or silverware or take home a piece of African craftsmanship from the comprehensive selection of ethnic collectables.

The Grande Roche Hotel Shop

The Grande Roche Hotel Shop has an eclectic collection of quality items to choose from including a Lorenzi ostrich and leather range, Grande Roche clothing such as golf shirts and caps as well as branded golf balls, towels and sandbags. The shop also offers some interesting and informative literature, e.g. popular cookery books that feature Bosman's Executive Chef, Frank Zlomke, wine guides and glossy coffee table books.

Paarl's Shopping Attractions

Paarl has a wonderful variety of shops to enjoy, filled with delights that will satisfy the most seasoned of shoppers! There are a multitude of delis and farm stalls filled with mouthwatering local fare such as olives, cheese, dried fruits and preserves from nearby farms. The town is also renowned for its quaint coffee shops, cafés, gift shops and art galleries which brim with local artworks. There are many interesting sport and leisure activities available close to the Hotel. Our Guest Services staff will provide information or arrange reservations and transport to any of these venues.
