The Mount Nelson Hotel, opened on the 6th of March 1899, was the fruit of the imagination and determination of shipping magnate Sir Donald Currie. The hotel was designed to emulate the finest in London which was then the leading capital of refined hostelry. The reviews which followed the grand opening of the Mount Nelson claimed that the hotel surpassed all expectations and exceeded the comparison with its British rivals.

Rooms
Superior Rooms
Our Superior Rooms are spacious and elegant – ideal for both leisure and business travellers.
Guests can comfortably be entertained in a mini-lounge area and a writing desk, complete with stationery, is ideal for catching up on correspondence. All rooms have an en-suite bathroom which vary in size depending on the location of the room; equipped with shower, bath, basin and lavatory. The rooms have a choice of twin or king sized beds.
Luxury Rooms
Our Luxury Rooms have an understated old-world charm, complemented by modern luxury for the discerning traveller.
They are larger in size than Superior Rooms, with more spacious sitting areas and en-suite bathrooms. Luxury Rooms also offer a choice of twin or king-size beds with a view choice of our magnificent gardens, Table Mountain or a balcony overlooking a tinkling fountain courtyard.
Disabled Rooms
We have two purpose built Luxury Rooms to accommodate and meet the special needs of physically disabled guests.
The bathrooms have been adapted with wider bathroom doors, a low sink & bath with handrails and open cupboards for easy access. The shower, with a movable showerhead, has been left open, with a chair for convenience.
These rooms are situated in Green Park and offer views overlooking a picturesque courtyard with fountain.
Suites
Junior Suites
For guests requiring more spacious accommodation, our Junior Suites comprise of a bedroom with a larger lounge area than our rooms. Some of the Junior Suites offer a separate lounge whilst others offer an open plan lounging area.
An option of twin or king-size beds are offered with views of either our beautifully landscaped gardens or Table Mountain.
Executive Suites
Our Executive Suites are grander and more distinctive than the Junior Suites, offering spacious open-plan lounges and dining areas.
With the option of twin or king-size beds and views of either Table Mountain or a courtyard fountain, all have private balconies with garden furniture. All the suites feature newly renovated, luxurious marble bathrooms with walk-in dressing rooms.
Deluxe Suites
Our Deluxe Suites are larger than Executive Suites, with a separate living and dining area.
The Deluxe Suites, offer twin or king-size beds with, a private courtyard and a balcony overlooking a picturesque courtyard with fountain or a private garden overlooking one of the swimming pools. All the suites offer luxurious marble bathrooms with walk-in dressing rooms. A kitchenette / wet bar is provided with small microwave, washbasin and general kitchen utensils in selected suites.
Luxury Suites
Our Luxury Suites offer grand living at its finest.
These magnificently furnished suites feature an entrance hall, large lounge, dining room and master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. They are all very spacious and have spectacular views of the garden, pool or Table Mountain. A guest cloakroom is provided and selected suites also have a wet bar with small microwave, hot plate, sink and general kitchen utensils.
Penthouse Suite
Graham Viney's theme of soft hues and silky luxurious fabrics is continued in the suite; using white, cream and grey as the main colours, which take their cue from the hand painted panels of framed scenic wallpaper.
The 1930’s light fittings have exquisite baccarat crystal drops and the desk is the original Louis-style desk from the hotel’s lounge when it first opened in 1899. Mercury glass bedside lamps and a Venetian mirror complete the romantic and decadently lavish interior.

Cape Colony Restaurant

The Cape Colony restaurant combines fine dining with impeccable service amid an elegant interior, with live music each evening. The menu features contemporary South African food with an interesting Asian influence, while the wine list was recently awarded the Diners Club Award of Excellence.
Planet Champagne Bar
A full-service bar and cocktail menu is offered, with a wide selection of Champagnes and wines available by the glass and an assortment of delicious light meals, including caviar and oysters. 
Described as ‘ultra slinky and cool with a touch of colonial elegance exactly to the taste of Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City,’ it should come as no surprise that many of the world’s who’s who have been found at Planet.
Chef's Table
Executive Chef Ian Mancais and Executive Sous Chef Nick Haszard invite you to experience a tailor-made culinary encounter at the Mount Nelson Hotel's Chefs Table located in the heart of the kitchen, where you can enjoy out-of-the-ordinary fare whilst gaining a ‘fish-bowl glimpse’ into their previously secret domain.
Overlooking the picturesque gardens and swimming pool, the Oasis Restaurant offers a simple and contemporary take on ‘al fresco’ dining, with daily menus incorporating the Cape’s best local and seasonal produce in a relaxed, stylish and tranquil setting.

400 maximum capacity, ideal for Wedding Receptions, larger breakfasts, lunches & dinners, conferences & presentations.
The Garden Room
Ideal for breakfast, lunch & dinner for up to 90, conferences & presentations as well as Cocktails for up to 150.
The Union Castle Room
14 maximum capacity, ideal for small private breakfast's, lunches & dinners as well as boardroom meetings.
The Orchid Room
45 maximum capacity, this is a popular venue for private or business meetings & working groups as well as small breakfast, lunch & dinners & conferences.
The Green Park Room
60 maximum capacity, this venue is suited to smaller group functions such as conferences, buffet or working lunches and dinners, cocktail parties, product launches and presentations.
The Lord Nelson Room
45 maximum capacity, this is a popular venue for private or business meetings & working groups as well as small breakfast, lunch & dinners & conferences.
