Day 1: Depart USA Set out on your thrilling Kenya journey.
Day 2: Arrive Nairobi, Kenya Touch down in Nairobi this evening, and overnight in the Norfolk Hotel, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2004. Nairobi grew up around the Norfolk, and it served as the center of the town’s social life as well as East Africa’s safari terminus. Teddy Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Ernest Hemingway, royalty, rogues and writers all spent time on its wide, lazy verandas. Norfolk Hotel
Day 3: Amboseli National Reserve This morning, set out for Amboseli National Reserve near the Tanzanian border. The wildlife sanctuary sits in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the most photogenic backdrops in all of Africa.Your initial game drive introduces you to burly wildebeest and buffalo, sturdy impala and delicate Thompson’s gazelle, as well as lion and cheetah. Day 4: Amboseli National Reserve
During early-morning and late-afternoon game drives, you are likely to discover elephant herds cooling off in swamp waters and, with luck, the rare black rhino in the thorny bushes. This is a bird watcher’s paradise. Its wealth of bird life features more than 420 species, including an amazing 47 species of raptors.You have the opportunity to visit a traditional Masai village. Find out about their past and present from the women and young warriors. This evening, savor a visual feast as the sun slips behind Mount Kilimanjaro. Tortilis Camp (B,L,D)
Day 5: Aberdare National Park Fly back to Nairobi in time for a leisurely lunch before starting out toward the highlands of the Aberdare Mountains, an isolated volcanic range that forms the eastern wall of the Rift Valley, running north and south between Nairobi and Thomsons Falls. The traditional Kikuyu people of the area believe that this majestic mountain range is one of the homes of Ngai – God. The rugged terrain, ravines, streams and waterfalls combine to create wonderful landscapes that provide habitat for baboon, black and white Colobus and sykes monkeys. Aberdare National Park also hosts the second largest population of the black rhino, unique to Kenya. Arrive at the treetop lodge. Climb a gangway up to the level of the forest top. Here, the focus is nocturnal game viewing from strategic observation decks and a ground-level bunker that overlooks a natural water hole and salt lick. Each room is equipped with a bell that sounds during the night if an unusual animal comes to the waterhole. Elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and bushbuck come to the waterhole. The Ark (B,L,D)
Day 6: Samburu National Reserve Cross the Equator to reach Samburu National Reserve on the edge of the arid desert of the northern frontier district. The park features rocky terrain, dry riverbeds and fallen boulders rising out of the pale thorn scrub. The red dirt mountain of Lololokwi carves a distinctive line out of the horizon. Explore the shores and shallows of the Uaso Nyiro River, where you come across basking crocodiles. Samburu is one of the few sanctuaries in Kenya for the endangered Grevy’s zebra, the rare beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, and blue-shanked Somali ostrich. Herds of elephant roam the gaunt hills by day and come to the river to bathe in the evening.Your tranquil lodge of low, shingled buildings blends easily into the acacia woodlands near the river. Day 7: Samburu National Reserve An early morning game drive ends with a hearty bush breakfast set-up at Crocodile Point. Then, you are free to lounge, read, or enjoy a dip in the pool. Alternatively, visit a village, where the Samburu women greet you with a song. Other options include witnessing a tribal dance performance by local musicians, and a visit to a traditional handicraft market. Samburu Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 8: Masai Mara National Reserve The Great Rift Valley spreads out beneath your small plane as you fly into the heart of big game country – the magnificent Masai Mara National Reserve. This irreplaceable wildlife sanctuary is home to a staggering number of animals, including a large predator population. Gently rolling grasslands stretch to the horizon, intersected by dark green veins of rich acacia woodland. a portion of the 1985 movie "Out of Africa" was filmed here. Mara Safari Club (B,L,D)
Day 9: Masai Mara National Reserve During your game drives on the Mara, you encounter dozens of species of animals, including herds of buffalo, wildebeest, hartebeest, impala, and gazelle. You may glimpse the enchanting rare roan antelope with its long swept back horns. Dense thorn bush reveal browsing black rhino, and large numbers of giraffe and elephant move along the edge of the riverine woodland. Host to the country's largest predator population, the reserve is renowned for lion prides up to 20 strong. Hippo and crocodile are plentiful in the Mara River. Game viewing in the Mara is remarkable throughout the year. But little can compare to the Mara during the season of migration when hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra try to make the dangerous river crossing to complete their 800-mile journey in search of green grass. Day 10: Nairobi / Depart After breakfast, fly to Nairobi. This afternoon, you get a look at the city’s shopping area and colorful bazaar, Parliament buildings, Kenyatta Conference Center, Railway Museum, Uhuru Park, and the National Museum.You have a reserved dayroom at the Norfolk for your convenience. This evening, you will savor a final feast at a farewell dinner. As you set out for the airport this evening, you say “Kwaheri”, Swahili for goodbye to this amazing land.
