Day 1: Depart USA Your East Africa adventure begins with your flight to London.
Day 2: London / Nairobi, Kenya Connect with your onward flight to Nairobi to begin your classic safari adventure in the heart of Kenya’s big-game country. You are met and escorted to your elegant city hotel. The Norfolk Hotel
Day 3: Nairobi This morning is at leisure. After lunch and an informational briefing, you tour the enchanting Giraffe Center and author Karen Blixen’s home. Enjoy a welcome dinner this evening. The Norfolk Hotel (B,L,D)
Day 4: Nairobi / Samburu Game Reserve Fly to the red desert of Samburu to see rare northern game such as reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, and possibly leopard. Samburu Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 5: Samburu Game Reserve
During morning and afternoon game drives, you encounter abundant wildlife, and explore some intriguing natural features of the region. Samburu Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 6: Samburu Game Reserve / Sweetwaters Game Reserve After breakfast, head to Sweetwaters private reserve, encompassing a rich terrain of plains, low hills and forest. Visit Jane Goodall's chimpanzee sanctuary. This evening holds a special treat – a night game drive to search for elusive leopard and other nocturnal animals. Sweetwaters Camp (B,L,D)
Day 7: Sweetwaters Game Reserve / Amboseli National Park Fly to Nairobi and drive to your prestigious camp facing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Amboseli National Park. The mountain is a spectacular backdrop for photographing elephant, cheetah, giraffe and plains game. Spot some of the many birds around the spring-fed marshes. Tortillis Camp (B,L,D)
Day 8: Amboseli National Park Enjoy a rewarding game drive at daybreak, the best time to see and photograph Mt. Kilimanjaro. This afternoon offers another fascinating game drive. Tortillis Camp (B,L,D)
Day 9: Amboseli National Park / Lake Manyara National Park, Tanzania Cross the border into Tanzania as you travel to Lake Manyara, where you find a surprising array of big game, exotic waterfowl and songbirds. Lake Manyara Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 10: Lake Manyara National Park / Ngorongoro Crater Travel by road to the Ngorongoro highlands, overlooking the famous crater, a 12-miles-wide depression that forms a natural amphitheater that is home to some 30,000 animals. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 11: Ngorongoro Crater The crater’s grassy terrain and population of animals means exceptional game-viewing opportunities. Roam the crater floor, searching for rare black rhino, hippos, and nearly every other mammal species in East Africa. Ngorongoro Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater / Olduvai Gorge / Serengeti National Park Visit the fossil beds of Olduvai, site of the Leakey family’s great discoveries about early man. Continue on to the Serengeti Plains and a world of big game and lavish natural beauty. Serengeti Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 13: Serengeti National Park On the vast open plains, you experience some of the finest wildlife viewing in Africa. Huge groups of animals move across the land, closely followed by lion, cheetah, hyena and leopard. Serengeti Serena Lodge (B,L,D)
Day 14: Serengeti National Park / Masai Mara Game Reserve Fly via Kilimanjaro and Nairobi to Masai Mara Game Reserve, where animals are plentiful even near your prized, tented camp. Governors Camp (B,L,D)
Days 15-16: Masai Mara Game Reserve With two full days in the Mara, you have wonderful opportunities to encounter vast numbers and varieties of animals and birds. An optional hot-air balloon safari over the Mara (pre-paid supplement) provides an unmatched experience of the African savannas. Governors Camp (B,L,D-daily)
Day 17: Masai Mara Game Reserve / Nairobi / Depart To USA After a final view of the Mara’s rich wildlife, you fly to Nairobi. A dayroom is reserved for your convenience. This evening, celebrate at a gala farewell dinner before bidding Kwaheri (Swahili for “goodbye”) as you transfer to the airport for your late-evening flight to Europe.
