Malawi is dominated by the tranquil waters of Lake Malawi, the country’s greatest attraction. This nature lover’s paradise offers visitors incredible scenery, exceptionally beautiful national parks and prolific bird life. During this trip you will also be able to meet Malawi’s people—some of the friendliest in all of Africa.

Mumbo Island lies within an exclusive concession in the Lake Malawi National Park, the first freshwater marine reserve in the world. The diving and snorkeling are excellent, as is the sea kayaking, letting you closely explore the granitic islands in the lake. Your comfortable but basic tent (one of only five), is on a raised platform with incredible views of Lake Malawi.

In Liwonde National Park, lion, crocodiles, countless pods of hippo, Sable Antelope, herds of elephant and some of the best birding on the continent are to be found here. Mvuu Wilderness Lodge has discreetly nestled its five spacious “Hemingway-styled” tents along the banks of a quiet lagoon flowing off the Shire.

At the tiny Likoma Island, stay at Kaya Mawa, comprised of seven stone and teak framed thatched cottages, surrounded by mango trees and ancient baobabs. Relax on the beach, enjoy water activities or venture into the local village for an authentic cultural experience. A visit to St. Peters Cathedral, which was built at the turn of the century, is also one of the highlights.

Mumbo Island, kayaking and other activities on Lake Malawi, Mumbo Island.

Day 4
Scenic drive to Liwonde National Park and Mvuu Lodge, Mvuu Lodge.

Day 5 - 6
Game-viewing and cultural activities, Mvuu Lodge.

Day 7
Scenic flight to Northern Lake Malawi and Likoma Island, Kaya Mawa.

Days 8 - 9
Activities on Likoma Island and Lake Malawi, Kaya Mawa.

Day 10
Scenic flight to Lilongwe and depart.
