This self-drive tour features Namibia's most alluring destinations and provides a wonderful overview of the country's varied charms. Start with an overnight in Windhoek, Namibia's capital city. The town is an easy, pleasant place to explore, with charming colonial architecture and fine opportunities for craft shopping. The next day, drive to Okonjima Bush Camp, home to a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of Namibia's threatened cats, primarily the cheetah and leopard. Next drive to Onguma Tented Camp, which borders the Etosha National Park. Continue by road to Ongava Lodge, where a professional guide leads guests on nature walks and game drives both in Etosha National Park and the Ongava Private Game Reserve. Next, drive to Mowani Mountain Camp in Damaraland, where a Petrified Forest tour and nature drive awaits. Wonderful desert scenery, archaeological formations, and a peaceful landscape are highlights at Mowani. From Mowani, spend two nights at the Swakopmund Hotel. Swakopmund is a charming coastal city with a superb collection of colonial German architecture and a temperate climate that makes it ideal for exploration on foot. The trip concludes at Sossusvlei with two nights in the heart of the southern Namib Desert at the stunning Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge. Explore the surrounding desert and the world's highest dunes: climb the spectacular blood red sand mountains that soar 2,000 feet into the sky, a perfect way to finish this magnificent journey.
