Parc National des Volcans, tucked into the lush slopes of the Virunga massif, form the dramatic setting for what is arguably the ultimate wildlife experience to be had in the wilds of Africa: gorilla tracking. Nothing can prepare you for the impact of encountering a full-grown Silverback Gorilla: up to three times the size of the average man, yet remarkably peaceful and habituated to human visitors.

Your two exhilarating treks into the rainforest are steep and quite strenuous, varying in length depending on which group of gorillas you are assigned to visit. The intimate company of mountain gorillas in their magnificent natural habitat is the pinnacle of wildlife encounters.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive Kigali, Rwanda. Drive to Kinigi (approx. two hour drive), Gorilla Mountain View Lodge or Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.

Day 2

Report to National Park Headquarters and embark on your first gorilla trek in the Parc National des Volcans to visit one of seven habituated gorilla groups. Upon reaching your assigned group, spend one hour with the gorillas, Gorilla Mountain View Lodge or Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge.

Day 3

Second gorilla trek. After lunch at the lodge return to Kigali by road, Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 4

Depart Kigali.
