Tour Itinerary
Days 1-2:
Arrive in Delhi and begin the first of two Days' exploration of Old and New Delhi. Highlights include stops at the Red Fort, the Jama Masjid and Raj Ghat, a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi on the banks of the Yamuna river. Also explore Qutub Minar, an Indo-Islamic stone tower that is the highest in India, and Humayun's Tomb, an architectural precursor to the Taj Mahal.
Day 3:
Travel by road to Agra, stopping at Sikandra en route. This afternoon visit the Agra Fort and, at sunset, the Taj Mahal.
Day 4:
Continue to Jaipur, pausing to visit Fatehpur Sikri and Bulund Darwaza along the way.
Day 5:
Discover Amber Fort, a magnificent complex of stone halls with a dazzling mirrored room at its heart. Next, take an elephant ride accompanied by a professional mahout. Also visit Jantar Mantar Observatory and the City Palace.
DayS 6-8:
Fly to Mumbai and connect to "Golden Goa," India's smallest state, a fascinating mix of Portuguese architecture and traditions, local Indian culture and mythology and sun-loving bon vivants. Explore the 16th-century churches of Old Goa and enjoy ample time at leisure in the tropical seaside setting.
Days 9-12:
Board the Deccan Odyssey luxury train, where you spend your Days exploring the less-travelled sights of India and your nights rolling tranquilly along the Indian countryside. Stops include second-century BC Ellora and Ajanta Caves, which contain the finest Buddhist mural art and sculpture in the world, and Kohlapur, Pune, the Daulatabad fortress and the Panchavati Ghat in Nasik.
Day 13:
An early morning arrival begins your stay in Mumbai, followed by an introductory tour of the city.
Day 14:
Cruise through Mumbai Harbor to Elephanta Island, site of several extraordinary cave temples carved directly out of the rock.
Day 15:
Transfer to the airport to board your onward flight.
