Itinerary

Day 1:    Paro, Bhutan / Thimpu
The Kingdom of Bhutan lies in the heart of the Himalayas and possesses an almost surreal beauty and mythical presence in its isolation from the outside world.  Here, a small number of travelers are welcomed annually into a fascinating Buddhist society little touched by the modern world.  Dramatic landscapes soar from heights of 1,000 feet to 24,000 feet within a hundred miles.  Meet your guide on arrival in Paro, who will drive you to the capital and religious center, Thimpu. Day 2:  Thimpu 
Thimpu’s highlights and lesser-known sights -- from the School of Thangka painting to the National Library to Traditional Medicine Institute -- offer fascinating insights into Bhutan and the Buddhist philosophies.   Meet and mingle with local people at the market and in rural villages, where goldsmiths and silversmiths flourish.  Dominating the scene is the striking Tashichodzong Fortress palace from which the province is ruled.  Riverview Hotel (B,L,D)

Day 3: Paro Valley
Experience the enchantment of Paro Valley on a journey
through forested mountain passes and simple farmlands.  On the north end of the valley stands ruins of Drukgyel Dzong (Victorious Fortress), where Bhutanese repelled invading Tibetan armies during the 17th century.  The majestic white dome of Mt. Day 4:    Paro / Depart 
Bid farewell to this mythic kingdom and its warm people as you transfer to the airport for you onward flight.  (B)
