Tour Itinerary
Day 1 Paro to Thimphu to Punakha Morning flight to Paro and drive on to Thimphu. Taj Tashi Hotel or Amankora
Day 2 Explore the town of Thimphu. The Memorial Chorten is one of the most visible religious structures in Thimphu and for many people it is the focus of their daily worship. It is a large Tibetan-style religious building that was built in memory of the third king and former ruler, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Visit the National Library, National Painting School, the zoo and a nunnery. Drive to the Dochula Pass where on a clear day you can see Bhutan's highest peaks. Meri Puensum, Zangtho Pelri or Amankora
Day 3 Punakha Punakha Dzong was built in 1637 and now used as the winter residence of the chief abbot. Also visit the imposing Wangdu Phodrang Dzong and walk through the village to the Temple of Fertility. During the migration season the area is the habitat for the rare Black-necked Cranes. Days 4-5 Punakha to Jakar On mountain roads bedecked with prayer flags fluttering in the mist, travel to Bumthang, visiting local weavers in Chummy Valley en route. Spend a day exploring the many temples in and around Bumthang. Leki or Gangkhar Lodge or Amankora
Day 6 Gangtey Today is a full day drive to the Phobjikha Valley, the winter home of the Black-necked Cranes. En route, visit the enormous Trongsa Dzong, built in the 15th century. Arrival late afternoon to Gangtey. Dewachen, Thegchen Phodran Guest House or Amankora.
Day 7 Gangtey to Thimphu Today a full day's scenic drive takes us back to Thimphu. Taj Tashi Hotel or Amankora
Day 8 Thimphu to Paro This morning visit the textile museum and then drive to Paro. At the National Museum, you’re likely to find yourself amongst locals and other Bhutanese travelers—its treasures representative of the art and handicrafts of the country. You’ll also visit the Paro Dzong. Uma Resort or Amankora
Day 9 Paro In the morning, drive to the old ruins of Drukgyal Dzong and then hike to the lookout point for Tiger’s Nest, Bhutan’s holiest monastery one of the most venerated pilgrimage sites in the Himalaya. The wonderful view of the temples clinging to the 2,000-foot cliff will be your reward for the hike. Uma Resort or Amankora
