Day 1:Arrive Paro Step off the plane into the cool mountain air at Paro International Airport, Bhutan’s only airport. Your representative greets you and ushers you to your hotel on a lovely drive through enchanting Paro Valley. After lunch, explore Ta?Dzong, a 17th century watchtower that now houses the country’s National Museum, filled with antique Thankha paintings, textiles, weapons and amour. Olathang Hotel. Day 2:Paro / Jele Dzong The power and majesty of the Himalayas are most evident when you travel by foot. Today, you are driven to Jele Dzong, altitude 8,500 feet, to begin your first walk. This short four-mile trek winds along a trail with a gradual incline. In clear weather, Paro Valley and surrounding snowcapped mountains stand out brilliantly. Overnight at best available (B,L,D) Day 3:Jele Dzong / Jangchulakha Today’s trek covers just over six miles at an altitude of 9,500 feet. Begin the day with an hour and half climb. The trail then ascends gradually upward through thick alpine forest and rhododendrons trees. You may meet yak herders when you reach the campsite. Overnight at best available (B,L,D) Day 4:Jangchulakha / Jimilangtso This day’s trail, about seven miles at around 11,000 feet, follows a ridge that on clear days offers exquisite views of surrounding mountains and the valley below. Camp is close to Lake Jimilangtso. The lakes here are known for giant trout and, if you are lucky, you may enjoy fresh-caught lake trout for dinner. Overnight at best available (B,L,D)
Day 5:Jimilangtso / Jimina / Thimphu An easy hike, mostly downhill, awaits you. Walk about six miles to Jimina village. Here, you are driven to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital for some afternoon sightseeing. Wander in the colorful handicrafts emporium. You may wish to tour the workshop where the handicrafts are made. Visit Tashichho?Dzong fortress and the National Memorial Chorten. Overnight at the Riverside Hotel (B,L,D)
Day 6:Thimphu / Paro Airport Depart for the international airport at Paro for your onward flight.(B)
