Angkor Wat is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places on the planet. Made by the Khmer kings in a process that lasted almost 4 centuries, this magnificent area has been abandoned and hidden by forests. Re-discovered by a French man about 150 years ago, Angkor Wat is ready to become one of the most visited archaeological and artistic site on the planet.
Siem Reap, the closest city to this exciting world, is a beautiful town with new pubs, cafès and restaurants opening almost every week, as well as new boutique and International hotels. Welcome to one of the fastest developing Asian areas.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1. Arrival in Siem Reap. You will be met by our representative immediately upon exiting the Arrival Hall and proceed to your hotel for check-in.
This afternoon, you will visit Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world, with a volume of stone equaling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. It is unlike all the other Khmer temples in that it faces west, and is inspired by 12th Century Hinduism. The balance of the day at leisure. D
Day 2. Siem Reap. This morning, you will visit the monumental magnificence of Angkor Thom the last capital of the Khmers, with its Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King and the stunning Bayon temple.
This afternoon, you will visit the Angkor Temples at Ta Prohm, the temple that has been left largely in its natural state since its “re-discovery” by French explorers. Dinner at local restaurant or at hotel. BD
Day 3. Siem Reap. After breakfast at your hotel, Temples further afield beckon your inspection, driving past rice paddy fields and a local village is Banteay Srei, "The Citadel of Women", perhaps the most beautiful of the temples in Siem Reap. Seldom visited, this temple can be wandered through peacefully and at your own pace.
This afternoon, drive to a development project teaching young adults stone carving, wood carving and lacquer application. Les Artisans d' Angkor is a heart warming reminder that progress in Cambodia can go hand in hand with traditional crafts. Then continue to Ton Le Sap Lake, the largest fresh water lake in South East Asia, which is the lifeblood of the Cambodian fishing industry. Hopping on board small shaded vessels and moving between the floating homes and small fish farms you will experience close up, daily lake life. Return to your hotel and enjoy your dinner. BD
Day 4. Siem Reap-Departure. Free at your leisure until you depart to the airport for your onward flight. B
