Arrive in Phnom Penh for an afternoon tour of the Silver Pagoda, the National Museum, and Wat Phnom, which is set dramatically atop a tree-covered knoll and offers magnificent views of the city. The following morning, fly to Siem Reap to begin your touring of the famous temples. Visit Angkor Thom and the Temple of Bayon, a tremendous multi-towered temple covered with gargantuan heads depicting the king as a Bodhisattva, or Buddhist deity of compassion. Also visit the Elephant and Leper King Terraces, where you can walk atop ancient stone platforms believed to have been used for public ceremonies during the reign of the Khmer Empire. Continue to Ta Prohm, many travelers' favorite temple. Vines and trees have been allowed to grow over the temple complex; the combination of wild jungle and beautiful stone temples creates an eerie dreamlike effect that will leave a lasting impression. Your day concludes with a sunset visit to Angkor Wat, a perfect time to explore one of the wonders of the ancient world. Stroll through the stone galleries, terraces, and grounds and examine the vivid bas-reliefs and friezes, an illustrated guide to Hindu mythology. On your last day, tour Banteay Srei, considered by many to be the jewel in Angkor's crown, before transferring to the airport.
