Duration: 3 Days / 2 Nights Priced From: $390 pp dbl. occ. Dates: Jan - Dec

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Phnom Penh Welcome to Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital city, considered by many to be one of the prettiest of the French-built cities of Indochina. Your representative meets you and accompanies you to your hotel for check in. Begin your exploration of the city, which sits at the confluence of three rivers: Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap. In 1372, a rich Khmer woman, named Penh, came upon four Buddha statues in a tree trunk on the banks of the Mekong. In honor of that event, she established a small monastery on a nearby hill, ‘phnom.’ Visit Wat Phnom temple, which has been restored or reconstructed several times in the intervening years, most recently in 1926. The French built the royal palace in 1866. It is located on the site of a former citadel, Bantey Kev. The palace remains in use today as the official residence of King Norodom Sihamoni. In 1892, another King Norodom had the silver pagoda, also known as the Pagoda of the Emerald Buddha, constructed. The wooden temple’s interior floor is covered with more than 5,000 silver blocks, which together weigh nearly six tons. Stroll through the national museum, designed by a French archeologist and painter, George Groslier, in Khmer style to exhibit works previously scattered throughout the country. It houses a fine collection of Khmer art, including a stunning 6th century bronze statue of Vishnu. Browse busy Central Market filled with shops selling jewelry, fabrics and all kinds of souvenirs. Choice of Hotels Day 2: Phnom Penh Today, you learn firsthand about the infamous Killing Fields. Tuol Sleng Museum, (Museum of Genocide), was formerly Tuol Svay Prey High School, which became Prison 21, or just S-21, in 1975. This was the Khmer Rouge’s main torture and interrogation center. You also see Choeung Ek, the location known as “the killing fields,” where people were brought to be executed. Many mass graves were found in this area. You will long remember this moving experience. Choice of Hotels (B) Day 3: Phnom Penh / Depart After breakfast, you are at leisure until you depart for your next destination. (B)
