Duration: 11 Days / 10 Nights Priced From: $9,995 pp dbl. occ. Dates: May, Sep Start/Finish: Shanghai / Beijing

For those who see travel not just as a journey for the five senses, but one for the soul as well, the history-laden Silk Road in western China will over-deliver. The ancient Silk Road consisted of a network of trade routes that totalled over 9,000 miles, linking Imperial China to Rome.
B&R’s route winds through stunning mountain ranges, deserts, prairies and basins. You will experience unprecedented access to the Silk Road’s most famous elements as well as its best-kept secrets. We’ve designed an itinerary that takes us from busy cities to remote desert, with the opportunity for deep cultural exposure. This is indeed an epic journey.
Trip Highlights
• Travel by plane to ensure you see the very best of this expansive and diverse region
• Bike poplar-lined roads in the shadow of the Flaming Mountains, a towering bluff of red limestone cliffs
• Enjoy unprecedented access to sights and venues that have survived thousands of years of both a rich and turbulent history, including the caves of Dunhuang and Xi’an’s famous Terracotta Warriors
• Cycle to Uyghur villages where Westerners, especially on bikes, are rarely seen
• Haggle over the price of carpets, gold, spices and, of course, silk – you can’t help but feel part of Kashgar’s timelessness
Tour Accommodations
Silk Road Hotel, Dunhuang
The Silk Road Hotel is built to reflect the traditional fortresses that at one time lined the trading routes. In colour, style and character, it blends comfortably into the landscape. It offers charm, simple hospitality and a little romance. The rooms and amenities are not luxurious by Western standards. There is a spa that offers traditional Chinese massages and a restaurant that, though basic, provides an introduction to the uncomplicated pleasures of western Chinese cuisine. Sheraton Hotel, Urumqi The Sheraton is the best and newest hotel in Urumqi, with spacious and comfortable rooms. The hotel caters primarily to business travellers. It is large and busy, but centrally located in a vibrant part of the city.
Tu Ha Hotel, Turpan The Tu Ha Hotel is a comfortable, modern hotel conveniently located downtown. The rooms are simple but clean, and the staff are friendly but have a limited command of English.
East-West International Hotel, Kashgar This brand-new four-star hotel is conveniently located right next to the city's central square, facing one of China's four remaining Mao statues.
Peninsula Palace, Beijing
Recently refurbished from top to bottom, the Peninsula Palace was rated China’s top hotel by Travel & Leisure in 2005. We know why! One block away from Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, its location is fantastic, as are its rooms, amenities, and buffet breakfast.
