Day 2: Beijing • After clearing customs and immigration you are met and taken to your hotel. Peninsula Beijing Hotel

Day 3: Beijing • Explore Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Visit the normally closed halls of Yan Xin Dian and Chong Hua Gong. Go for a private boat ride on Lake Kunming and then wander through Hongqiao Market. Your welcome dinner is at Club Lan. Peninsula Beijing Hotel B, L, D

Day 4: Beijing • After a tai chi lesson, visit the Great Wall at the Mutianyu site and the Ming Tombs. You may visit the "Spirit Way." Peninsula Beijing Hotel B, L, D

Day 5: Beijing/Dunhuang • Fly to Dunhuang, a former Silk Road garrison. After lunch visit the local high school, the Silk Carpet Factory and Dunhuang Museum. Dunhuang Hotel B, L, D

Day 6: Dunhuang • Visit Mogao Caves for access to several caves closed to the public and tour Dunhuang Institute. Travel by camel for lunch on the dunes. Dunhuang Hotel B, L, D

Day 7: Dunhuang/Xian • Fly to Xian, and after lunch meet with the site director of the ongoing Yangling excavation. Attend a sunset cocktail party on the ramparts of Xian's City Wall. Shangri La Hotel B, L

Day 8: Xian • Visit the Terra Cotta Warriors excavation, including recent digs still closed to the public, then explore the Shaanxi Provincial Museum. Shangri La Hotel B, L, D

Day 9: Xian/Guilin • Meet an imam when you visit the Muslim Quarter. Visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and fly to Guilin. Sheraton Hotel B, L, D

Day 10: Guilin • Cruise the Li River on a private boat. Arrive in Yangshuo and wander through its market. Tonight attend Impressions - Liu San Ji, a music and dance "light show." Sheraton Hotel B, L, D

Day 11: Guilin/Hangzhou • Climb to the summit of Fubo Shan hill, then visit the Reed Flute Cave. After lunch fly to Hangzhou. Shangri La Hotel B, L, D

Day 12: Hangzhou • Drive to Mei Jia Wu Tea Village to learn how tea is picked and cured. Visit the Lingyin Temple, sit down to a picnic lunch, wander through Huagang Park and take a private boat ride on West Lake. Shangri La Hotel B, L, D

Day 13: Hangzhou/Wuzhen/Shanghai • Stop in Wuzhen for a boat ride and lunch en route to Shanghai. Attend a Chinese acrobatic show. Four Seasons Hotel B, L

Days 14-15: Shanghai • A specialist leads you through the Shanghai Museum and the VIP Hotong Room. Roam Shanghai's Old Town, the Yu Yuan garden, the French Concession, the Bund, the Urban Planning Museum, the Jade Buddha Temple and the M-50 district. Your farewell dinner is at Laris.
