Tour Itinerary
Day 1. Depart your hometown from the West Coast. After introductions and meeting your escort (who will be travelling with you all the way) fly across the Pacific with the award winning airline, Cathay Pacific Airways flight to Hong Kong. F
Day 2-3. Arrive Beijing. Cross the international dateline and "lose" a calendar day which will be regained on the return trip. After your connection to Beijing you are met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. Remainder of day is free to rest or shop at Silk Alley or Wan Fu Jing - Beijing's famous walking street. New Otani Chang Fu Gong - Beijing (3 nights)
Day 4. Beijing. Today visit the Forbidden City, whose acres of splendid 15th Century halls and pavillions are graced with Imperial treasures and Tian An Men Square, the largest plaza in the world. Later, enjoy a visit to the Hutongs, the old and traditional area of Beijing, with a peddycab ride through narrow streets. Tonight enjoy a delicious Dumpling Dinner. BLD
Day 5. Beijing. You will never forget your visit to the Great Wall, the only man-made structure visible from outer space. Stay here and explore then it's time for lunch. Proceed back to the hotel for a rest. Tonight enjoy a traditional Peking Duck Banquet. BLD
Day 6. Beijing to Xian. Today visit the Temple of Heaven and see the only marble boat never to sail. Practice Taichi at the Temple of Heaven with a Taichi Master. Also visit the beautiful Summer Palace, the summer home of the Emperors and Empresses of China, and take a pleasant boat ride on the lake. This afternoon, fly to Xian, the ancient capital of China and the starting point of the Silk Road. This old walled city is a veritable treasure trove of Chinese culture and history. Day 7. Xian Sightseeing. Today, you will see the amazing life-size Terra Cotta Warriors. Over 600 of them have been standing guard for more than 2000years over the First Emperor of China. Discovered only in 1974, they are regarded as the archaeological discovery of the Century. Later, visit a Local Cave Home and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Tonight enjoy the Tang Dynasty Dinner and Show. BLD
Day 8. Xian to Lhasa. Today, fly to Lhasa, Tibet and transfer to the Lhassa Hotel. Take the day to rest up and acclimatize yourself with the altitude or explore the streets of Lhasa on your own. You will marvel at Lhasa's palaces and temples set against a backdrop of towering peaks. Lhasa Hotel (3 nights) BLD
Day 9. Lhasa. Today you will visit the amazing Potala Palace built in the 17th century and at one time the seat of Tibetan religious and political activity and the former home to the Dalai Lamas. It is now a museum 13 stories high and consisting of 1000 rooms. In the afternoon, continue your tour with a visit to Jokhang Temple. With an area of about six acres, it is the ultimate pilgrimage destination for Tibetan Pilgrims. Later take some time to stroll through Barkhor Street. Barkhor, a circular street at the center of Old Lhasa, is the oldest street in a very traditional city in Tibet. It is a place where Tibetan culture, economy, religion and arts assemble and a place to which a visit must be paid. Time for shopping? BLD
Day 10. Lhasa. This morning will be the highlight of your trip. Listen to experts as they explain Lamaism, Tibetan art and culture, Following lunch you will visit Norbulinka. Norbulinka means "Jeweled Garden", and is the summer palace for the Dalai Lama. There are also fascinating murals in excellent condition to see. Tonight enjoy an authentic Tibetan dinner while Tibetan dancers will provide the entertainment. BLD
Day 11. Lhasa to Chongqing. Today you will fly to Chongqing. Enjoy a city tour of Chongqing and following the sites, board the East King cruise after dinner. BLD
Day 12. Fengdu. This morning begin your cruise downstream. Relax on deck and observe both Chinese farm and village life. First port of call is Fengdu, known as "City of Ghosts" where a shore excursion visits one of the many temples housing silent ghost devils. BLD
Day 13. The Three Gorges. Visit the Three Gorges, one of the most spectacular sights in China including the Wu Gorge with its "Twelve Peaks", the Qutang Gorge known for its magnificent scenery and the western section of the longest gorge, the Xiling Gorge. Also experience a boat trip on the Shennong Stream lesser gorge. BLD
Day 14. Three Gorges Dam / Yichang/Shanghai. Experience the world's largest hydroelectric project to be completed in 2009 then sail through the eastern section of the Xiling Gorge with its beautiful scenery. Arrive Yichang around lunch time. Fly later to Shanghai, China's largest city. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Tonight you are free to dine and explore the nightlife of Shanghai on your own. Garden Hotel (2 nights) BL
Day 15. Shanghai Sightseeing. Today your tour starts with a visit to The Bund. Then it's off to the elegant and charming Yu Yuan Gardens and Yu Bazzard. Following an authentic Shanghainese lunch, you will have time to visit and explore the Shanghai Museum. Following the museum, shoppers can enjoy the amazing Nanjing Road and shop on your own. Enjoy a performance of the world famous Acrobatic show. BL
Day 16. Shanghai to Guilin. This morning, you will transfer to the airport for your flight to Guilin and check into your hotel upon arrival. Guilin is indisputably one of China's most picturesque cities. The landscape has been the subject of Chinese painters for centuries with its breathtaking limestone mountains, tree-lined streets, rice paddies and the meandering Li River. In the afternoon, enjoy the sites of the Reed Flute Cave. The cave got its name from the verdant reeds growing outside it, with which people make flutes. Inside this water-eroded cave is a spectacular world of various stalactites, stone pillars and rock formations created by carbonate deposition. Illuminated by colored lighting, the fantastic spectacle is found in many variations along this 240-meter-long cave. In the evening, enjoy a Western dinner on the banks of the Li River. Day 17. Li River Cruise to Yangshuo. Today cruise the Li River, one of the most mystical landscapes in the world. The river meanders through steep hills and green fields offering spectacular views. Lunch is served on board. Enjoy the afternoon in Yangshuo, where you will check into your hotel. The balance of the afternnon can be spent exploring this quaint town by bike or on foot through the enchanting back roads of the Yangshuo countryside. West Street is Yangshuo town's best known area. It is a long, narrow, pedestrian lane lined with restaurants, bars, small hotels, and souvenir stalls. West Street normally has a relaxed atmosphere that's ideal for outdoor cafe eating, drinking and camaraderie. In the evening, there is an optional show of the Liu San Jie Impression. Day 18. Yangshuo to Hong Kong. In the morning, transfer to Guilin Airport to catch your flight to Hong Kong. Welcome to the Orient's super city. You will be met by our representative and transferred to the Renaissance Kowloon Hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax, go shopping or enjoy the vibrant nightlife of Hong Kong. Day 19. Hong Kong. This morning, visit Hong Kong Island including Victoria Peak with its magnificent views, then visit Repulse Bay before stopping at the famous fishing village of Aberdeen for a chance to ride in a "Sampan". Visit Stanley Market . Lunch will be at the world famous Jumbo Floating restaurant in Aberdeen. The afternoon is free to further explore the city or shop the exciting Temple Street or Ladies Markets. Day 20. Hong Kong. A totally free day to enjoy all the wonders of this fabulous city. Take advantage of the Cultural Kaleidoscope program. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner at the Caf Deco on Victoria Peak while watching the amazing Festival of Lights show on Kowloon. BD
Day 21. Hong Kong to North America. Depart Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific Airways flight to North America arriving the same day. B
