Tour Itinerary
Day 1.
Arrive Lhasa. On arrival at Lhasa airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for 3 nights' accommodation. Welcome to the land known as Shangri-La and former kingdom of the Dalai Lama. It has been the centre of Tibetan Buddhism for hundreds of years. You will marvel at Lhasa's palaces and temples set against a backdrop of towering peaks. Day 2.
Sightseeing in Lhasa. This morning, first visit the amazing Potala Palace built in the 17th century and at one time the seat of Tibetan religious and political activity and the former home to the Dalai Lamas. It is now a museum 13 stories high and consisting of 1000 rooms. In the afternoon, visit Drepung Monastery, one of 10 active lamaseries in Tibet dating back to 1416. Approximately 300 lamas still live and work here. Also visit Jokhang Temple, one of Tibet's holiest temples. See the Golden Buddha which is made of pure gold and encrusted with jewels. BLD
Day 3.
Lhasa. Today, enjoy a visit to Norbulinka Park which was the summer residence of the Dalai Lamas. It is a building with 370 rooms and set amid a 100 acre garden. Later visit the Sera Monastery built in 1419 and a training centre for Buddhist monks. There will be time to visit the Bakhor Market BLD
Day 4.
Gyantze. This morning, leave Lhasa for Gyantze visiting en route, Yamdrokyun Lake where you will have lunch. Afterwards, continue to Gyantze where you will overnight. Gyantze is an old town with a market, ruins of a fortress and a large monastery. Gyantze Hotel BLD
Day 5.
Gyantze to Shigatse. Drive today to Shigatse visiting Gyantze Castle en route. On arrival, visit the Tashilhumpo Monastery, the most important religious site in the city and founded in 1447. It was the home of the Panchen Lamas. Now it houses 600 monks. Overnight in Shigatse. BLD
Day 6.
Shigatse to Lhasa. Drive back to Lhasa with lunch en route. Overnight in Lhasa. BLD
Day 7.
Depart Lhasa. You will be transferred to the airport for departure to your next destination . B
