Without a doubt Yunnan possesses the greatest diversity of any of China's provinces. The sixth largest of China's provinces, Yunnan lies in the southwest part of the country. Towering snow-capped mountains adjoin Tibet and Myanmar in the northwest, and lush tropical rainforests border Laos and Vietnam in the south.

It is home to over 25 different ethnic groups, and half of the country's plant and animal species. The UNESCO city of Lijiang is home to the Naxi minority originally from Eastern Tibet.

On the edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Zhongdian or Shangri-La, is the historic homeland of Tibetan nomads and one of the most secluded hideaways in the world.

Days 1-2

Arrive Kunming, Old Town, Stone Forest, Grand Park Hotel.

Day 3

Fly to Dali, minority villages, cruise Erhai Lake, Asia Star Hotel.

Days 4-6

Drive to Lijiang, sightseeing, Banyan Tree Lijiang.

Days 7-8

Drive to Zhongdian, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Banyan Tree Ringha Resort & Spa.

Day 9

Fly to Kunming and depart.
