On this voyage of discovery you'll be able to compare and contrast three distinct regions. The fertile Gangetic plain is home to the sacred city of Varanasi, while the Golden Triangle is dominated by the grand Imperial Mughal architecture, and princely Rajasthan is characterized by a riot of color and profusion of architectural fantasies.
The tour culminates at the picturesque princely city of Udaipur, home to the magical Lake Palace, and an ideal spot to relax, absorb, and reflect, on the essence of India.
Tour Itinerary
Days 1-2
Arrive Delhi; visit Old Delhi, including the Red Fort, Jama Masjid, The Oberoi.
Days 3-5
Sacred India, Varanasi and Khajuraho. Tour Varanasi by rickshaw bicycle. Cruise along the ghats of the Ganges River at sunset, where pilgrims offer prayers amid the ringing of temple bells. Then on to Khajuraho and the erotic carvings of the Chandela temples, Taj Ganges Hotel and Taj Chandela Hotel.
Days 6-7
Taj Mahal, Monument to Love. Today drive to Orchha to visit its medieval palaces and temples. Early evening, board the train to Agra. The extravagant Taj provides a magical backdrop to your fairy tale accommodations at the illustrious Oberoi Amarvilas.
Days 8-10
Jaipur, the Pink City. Ride to the elaborate Amber fort via elephant back; explore the old pink city including the City Palace and the astronomical observatory. Your hotel is the glorious Rambagh Palace.
Days 11-12
The Floating Palace. In the heart of Rajasthan, you'll find Udaipur, full of marvelous palaces and lakes. Your hotel is an exquisite white marble former Maharana's palace. A day trip to Ranakpur reveals the vast, 15th century Adinath Jain Temple, with nearly 1,500 intricately carved marble pillars no two alike, Taj Lake Palace Hotel.
Days 13-14
Tour New Delhi. See India Gate and pass by the Presidential Palace. Visit Humayun's Tomb and the Qutab Minar, The Oberoi.
Day 15
Depart India.
