Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Darjeeling Your representative greets you in Bagdogra and drives you to Darjeeling to explore this paradise of incomparable scenery and ancient Buddhist monasteries. This evening is at leisure. Stroll around Observatory Hill for awesome views of the mountains and city. Curio shops on Nehru Road sell crafts such as thankas (paintings), brass statues, religious objects, jewelry, carpets and woodcarvings. Hotel Windamere (D)
Day 2: Darjeeling Experience a dazzling sunrise over Himalayan peaks. Visit Ghoom Monastery, oldest and most famous in Darjeeling. Tour Botanical Gardens and Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre, which produces superb wool items, wood carvings and leather work. Day 5: Pemayantse / Martham Village Resort Each day, each bend in the road reveals more spectacular scenery than the one before. Drive along terraced fields and Teesta River, past wild banana plantations and through quaint Sikkimese villages, little touched by tourism, to Martham Village Resort. Day 6: Martham Morning at leisure for a nature walk or a drive to nearby villages. Visit 16th century Rumtek Monastery, built on the site of an older monastery. Day 7: Martham / Gangtok / Martham Today, travel to Gangtok, capital of Sikkim. Visit Tsuk-la-Khang Chapel, a principal site of Buddhist worship. Namgyalk Institute of Tibetology researches Tibet’s traditions. Orchid Sanctuary, nearby, houses hundreds of orchid specimens found in the region. Visit a monastery for young lamas.
