This tour offers the opportunity to discover the many contrasts within Japan both contemporary and traditional. From large cosmopolitan cities to historic and picturesque towns, all will be revealed. The itinerary contains the true essence of this long-stranding nation.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1. Depart North America. Fly from your home city to Vancouver or Los Angeles to connect with the Air Canada overnight direct flight to Tokyo.
Day 2. Arrive Tokyo. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Narita. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 3. Tokyo to Nikko. This morning, travel by road to the ancient town of Nikko where Nikko National Park is located surrounded by scenic mountains, lakes and waterfalls. The highlight of the visit will be the Toshogu Shrine, built originally about 400 years ago. Afterwards, continue to Kinugawa Onsen for overnight. Kinugawa Onsen is one of the largest resort areas in Japan where one can take pleasant evening walks along the nearby Kinu River. Experience a hot springs bath before enjoying a Japanese style dinner. BLD
Day 4. Kinugawa Onsen to Tokyo. Return to Tokyo by train after breakfast. On arrival at the station, you will be met and taken on a city tour which includes the Asakusa Kannon Temple and the Nakamise shopping arcade, the Imperial Palace Plaza grounds and the Metropolitan Government Office observation hall. A box lunch will be provided. Later check into your hotel for 2 nights accommodation. BL
Day 5. Tokyo. A full day at leisure to explore Tokyo on your own or indulge in a shopping paradise. In the evening, experience a demonstration of Origami and the art of Calligraphy. B
Day 6. Tokyo/Mount Fuji/Nagoya. After breakfast, travel by road to Mount Fuji to view this famous landmark half way up the mountain to the Fifth Station. Then continue to the Owakudani Valley for a boat ride on Lake Ashi. Later, transfer to Odawara Station for the bullet train to Nagoya. On arrival, check into your hotel for overnight. BLD
Day 7. Nagoya to Kyoto. Start with a full days sightseeing in Nagoya, Japans fourth largest city including a visit to Nagoya Castle surrounded by ramparts and built in 1612. You will also visit the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology with its collection of antique cars. Later in the afternoon, take the bullet train to Kyoto. Kyoto was the capital of Japan and residence of the Emperor from 764 to 1868 AD. The city used to be the religious and cultural center of Japan for many centuries. A huge number of important temples, shrines and other buildings are located in Kyoto. Check into your hotel for 3 nights. BL
Day 8. Nara. You will have a full day tour to Nara, Japans ancient capital. En route visit the Byodo-in Temple. On arrival in Nara, enjoy the experience of a traditional Tea Ceremony (subject to confirmation). Afterwards, visit the famous Todaiji Temple, the largest wooden temple in the world, the Sanjusangendo Temple and walk around the attractive Nara Park where deer run freely. Return later to Kyoto. BL
Day 9. Kyoto sightseeing.. Today is a full day exploring Kyoto including the Miho Museum, Kinkakuji Temple, also known as the Golden Pavillion and the imposing Nijo Castle. In the evening, take time to explore Kyotos quaint shops selling Japanese antiquities, tea sets art and kimonos BL
Day 10. Kyoto to Osaka. This morning, depart for the city of Osaka by road. On arrival, visit the Floating Garden Observatory and Dotonbori, a colourful street with many restaurants and shops. Later transfer to your hotel for overnight. BL
Day 11. Osaka to North America. Transfer to Osaka Kansai airport for your Air Canada flight back to North America arriving the same day. B
