Vientiane, capital of Laos, is Asia's biggest village. Busy and hectic in comparison to the rest of the country, it is quiet compared with any other city in Asia.

Vientiane, as all of Lao's major cities, is situated on the Mekong river which forms the lifeline of the country. Vientiane is a city full of surprises.

Day 2. Vientiane City Sightseeing. After breakfast at your hotel, depart for Wat Si Saket, with its beautiful Lao-style Buddha images, then Haw Phra Kaew, the former royal temple and now a museum, and Phra That Luang, the 'Great Sacred Stupa', which is the most important national monument in Laos. Then to Putousay, the victory gate also known as Anousavari. Constructed in 1958, its architecture is inspired by the Arc of Triumph in Paris.

After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Talaat Sao (Vientiane's morning market), which despite the name is open all day. You can buy Laotian woven textiles, souvenirs and handicrafts or imported goods from neighboring China and Thailand. Try some delicious local coffee and snacks.

Next, visit the weaving district of Ban Nong Buathong or pay a visit to Carol Cassidy and her Textile Gallery and Weaving workshop, which is set in a traditional Lao home. The remainder of the afternoon and this evening is at your leisure to relax or continue exploring Vientiane at your own pace. BL

Day 3. Depart Vientiane.After breakfast, transfer to the Vientiane airport for your onward flight. B
